Youth Programs - You can become a Youth Leader
Youth Leaders help to shape the future of Juniors, Cadets and Crusaders. Leaders are responsible for the efficient implementation, overall administration, operational and training support of the Youth Program.
Responsibilities of Youth Leaders include:
- ensuring all reasonable measures are taken to care for and protect young, vulnerable and impressionable people;
- working with the local Adult Division to encourage joint activities;
- planning an annual training schedule and submitting it to the appropriate Officer for approval;
- planning, scheduling, coordinating and directing effective weekly meetings;
- maintaining accurate and up-to-date records for attendance, individual youth progress records and recognition, and submitting them to the appropriate Officer;
- ensuring that all records and reports are completed accurately and submitted on time to the appropriate level;
- planning meetings with St. John Ambulance volunteers to receive input into the training schedule, to plan upcoming meetings, and to discuss concerns, problems or issues;
- assisting and advising the Divisional Superintendent on policy within the youth program;
- supporting and encouraging officers and youth in all activities undertaken by the Division;
- teaching youth in the Division;
- ensuring that each volunteer helper is aware of weekly expectations;
- ensuring that youth members have access to adequate resources;
- maintaining appropriate discipline;
- ensuring that there is adequate and appropriate leadership for each youth group;
- ensuring that all leaders or instructors are aware of their responsibilities and are consistent with disciplinary control and action;
- ensuring adequate and appropriate supplies are available;
- ensuring that members have access to adequate resources and space;
- attending scheduled meetings for the Division; and
- other duties as assigned by the Divisional Superintendent.
St. John Ambulance assumes the obligation to provide safe, well-managed services to the community and to our membership. All applicants aged 18 years and over, and/or upon their first appointment to a leadership position, are carefully screened.
